Trip to Bonaire - Kayaking in Mangrove Forest

I got a captain's sit in a double kayak this time and had an apprentice to do the rowing for a while to draw. And then just stopped to do several views from the same shady spot in the middle of mangrove maze.
That PowerTank ballpoint pen from uni was amazing! (see photo of the process below). It worked on my completely wet, salty paper like a brush! I loved it so much that I even tried to take it with me scuba diving - but at 70 feet it refused to pump ink :( too bad - it would have been a great tool! But it survived the submersion and depth and my vigorous attempts to use it and still works fine on the surface.

Sketchbook #102: From a Trip Around Christmas Time

We spent a lot of time inside - reading, playing games and enjoying cozy fire. But also got a lot of snow to play with - and sketch too :) Bottom page with two sketches taped in were drawn under a snow in the forest. Great time!

Trip to Bonaire - Underwater Adventures - Part 3

I wanted to have color and tried taking some color pencils with me. On the first attempt only yellow made it with me to the bottom of the sea :) And it proved to be not enough - but still interesting.
I taped underwater sketches in my main album and drew some treasures on the surface to cap the day.

Sketchbook #102: Reading Time

Some days I get a few lines and this is it. Some days I get to make a portrait. Sometimes I notice mistakes and some I don't. Sometimes it looks like him and sometimes I wonder where I saw that.
And some days there are pieces of duck tape everywhere - including on my sketchbook page :)

Trip to Bonaire - Part 1.

I spent a week on Bonaire - drawing under and above water, scuba diving, kayaking in mangrove forest and enjoying wind, sun and a little bit of rain.

My current sketchbook traveled with me (#103) - it's is an 8.5" x 8.5" square kunst-papier sketchbook with a very soft paper. I hoped that it would be a good option for gouache as I found it recommended by an amazing illustrator who uses it a lot - Leah Goren but I think it's not strong enough for my layering and re-working experiments. Is's great for ballpoint pen and markers. I use a lot of paint in it and it's great if everything worked on the first layer!

I used rite-in-the-rain paper for these underwater sketches and a wonderful 2B mechanical pencil without metal parts and taped these sketches in my sketchbook after washing salt water off and drying them thoroughly.

You will find some notes on that I saw as well as basic communication with my dive buddy.

Sketchbook #102: Pieces Everyday Life

I am continuing posting some sketches from December here... Another tooth was lost, news were drawn to digest them, room decorated for all kinds of winter holidays we celebrated and visit to doctor with elderly relative.
