Sketchbook #12: Lunchtime Mini Gouache

I paint tiny gouaches. Not because I don't want to paint larger ones but mostly because I end up not finishing them or not even starting them. These tiny paintings are hard to NOT finish :)

Sketchbook #112: Black Belt Training

These training sessions happen early in the morning and even though I bring a full set of watercolors with me I haven't used them yet - too cold! But little by little all the heat that comes from a group of good 20-30 people running and jumping penetrates my senses and then I can start thinking about color. Though by that time my feet are too cold and I have to run too ;)

Sketchbook #112: Running and Sketching

I carry a small sketchbook and pen in my pocket while I run and draw when I stop to stretch or at the end of the interval. Sometimes it's just scribbles and I never post them here and sometimes I post them anyway :)

Sketchbook #112: My Palettes

I draw my tools pretty regularly - just because they are right in front of me :)

But this time I decided to allocate first pages of a new sketchbook (it's a Stillman & Birn Alpha softcover) specifically for a record of my current palettes and colors.

This is something I saw in Liz Steel's sketchbook - and later noticed that a great many other artists enjoy this ritual :)

Sketchbook #111: Cello Practice

I took my gouache set and drew with the paint (there was no chance for a proper water container so I used two water brushes and only two colors).

Sketchbook #111: Tulips

I think the number of layers of gouache here is making paint crumble. Figuring out values when painting in gouache is hardest for me and I often make many layers to fix things... I ended up adding a bit of color pencil to save this spread.

Sketchbook #111: Black Belt Training

There are several dogs that come to the black belt training sessions. I am not sure they are into this whole belt thing but they bring a lot of enthusiasm to this early morning adventure of ours!

Sketchbook #111: Treasures

I found a bag filled with rocks and other treasures in my backpack. I wonder how long I've been carrying it around...
