I am in a predicament: I love citrus fruits and especially clementines that fill my home with the fragrance and anticipation of the holidays right at the fold between fall and winter. But I also try to buy local fruits and vegetables when I have a chance. This year most of the clementines were from afar and these blew my mind completely - all the way from Australia!

Sketchbook #115: Trip to Europe - Vienna and around
One of the great things we did on this trip was to get some real guided tours. Very few of them actually were in English but we enjoyed both printed and audio translations and a rare brief English-language intervention from the guide. But in Vienna, we hit a jackpot and got a really great guide. We spoke the same language and it was especially interesting because of all the hidden places we were shown, layers of history she tied for us together and special corners, stairs, walls, and tips about food and drinks.

Austria - mountains, glaciers, lakes, and little things everywhere - rocks and apples and herbs. Lots of space, wonderful smells and tastes and abundance of clean colors!
Sketchbook #115: Trip to Europe - Austria - CAVES!
We visited two wonderful caves - one was a salt mine and another an ice cave. The best thing about the salt mine was that we got to ride down the slides (it was a lot of fun) and there were many cool salt crystals in all the walls. The worst thing was the last bit when we were riding on a small train through a narrow passage. The ice cave was very cool - we had to carry our own oil lamp and the gust of wind at the entrance/exit was really impressive (as in I am not sure small kids would be OK with it :) And the worst thing was that there was not enough light to really appreciate all the ice formations.
Sketchbook #115: Trip to Europe - Austria
Austria started for us in Salzkammergut and it was very green and full of bright pink flowers on wooden balconies. Friendly cows everywhere with a gentle smell and lots of singing birds. Stores and restaurants closed on Sunday, tasty apple juice and mountains everywhere! I tried to sum it all up on this page:
