I found some dogwood flowers!
I missed my "scheduled" dogwood tree blooming time (and ended up enjoying an early season Pride of Madeira - so no loss!) But then I realized that there is a rather tall group of dogwood trees near my library - and they are very late bloomers every year - so perhaps I was not that late after all?
Glorious Godwood Trees
On one of my bike rides, I found lots of blooming dogwood trees and picked this particular set of two - with a carpet of tulips and daffodils under it - for a special little outing.
I was in the middle of an experiment with several materials at once right before this outing and ended up with very little ability to plan this sketch - which means I ended up with several separate vignettes stitched together.
Now that I look at my sketches from a few days ago, I have to run and catch some of these flowers in my sketchbook again!
Dogwood
This year everything seems to be blooming at the wrong time for me - but I got to spend some time with this lovely dogwood tree before it lost all the flowers. There is one pink dogwood that I hope to draw but it might not work out as there is construction where I would be standing :) The best viewpoint is often in the most awkward place. But I will try - wish me luck!
Treasures
Things I found, things I was given, things I saw on my walk or run :) These are all plant-related treasures - it is spring, after all, and my phone is bursting with pictures of plants and birds to identify!
Sketchbook #99: Trip to Banff - Part III
On the of the hikes (not too far from the crowds of Lake Louise) I found these amazing moss- and lichen- covered rocks that looked like tiny worlds and spent quite a bit of time just looking and trying to find patterns, count how many times on the rock you see each living thing and if the four color theorem can be illustrated with them :)
