New Alarm Clock!

What can I say - this alarm clock is unpredictable. I cannot find it or a snooze button. 

Jungle in the City

A few creeks are running through the city near my home. They become jungles every year after the rains - some more, some less - this particular one is my favorite. A whole ecosystem grows inside cement walls there are all sorts of plants, and birds raise generations or two of chicks before the city comes over and clears all this greenery away. It happens every year. I went to draw this wilderness before it was too late. Below are my process photos - from ink lines to watercolor-y gouache to gouache.

Six Feet Tall Calla Lilies

In the middle of a busy and rather hot June afternoon, I took a short break to visit a local garden where the place with the best shade was... under a large tree under which were the largest calla lilies I've ever seen!  I ended up painting them from the ground to feel even more dwarfed by them. Gouache and ink.

 

Jacaranda Season (with process photos)

Jacarandas has one of my favorite purple colors and when the season is here and whole trees are covered in bloom I sometimes map my daily walks from one purple tree to another! Below are my two plein-air sketches with some process photos. Click on the image to see it larger and if you ever want a print of these - let me know!

I tried to make a portrait of one particular tree - in a super fast and fresh way with gouache.

I took some time to include a street view for this tree (also gouache). 

Sketchbook Experiments: Videos

I've been thinking a lot about different kinds of art and how they are shared/consumed by different people in different socio-economic situations and throughout history and life stages. Sounds serious but has a lot to do with a very practical task of sorting through piles and piles of work while downsizing and moving studio space. This long preamble is connected to some little pieces that I created recently and have no idea how to share them with people :) see videos below - the only attempt that made sense so far. I was making sounds for these too but not ready to share that yet. Thinking about sharing wish a small circle :)
