A Garden Outing

On a lovely breezy day, I got to paint phloxes and lilies. Both of these flowers were growing in my grandma's tiny street garden under her window, and both of these flowers smell like summer holidays for me. So I reminisced, sniffed, sneezed, and smiled while painting these.

I was using my gouache and watercolor palette (freshly refilled) plus some pre-mixed gouache paints and got overwhelmed by the colors. I will pay more attention to shapes next time - unless colors swipe me away again :) Perhaps I might invite Suhita to this place and learn working with her amazing new black and white minimal kit - that should do it!

Six Feet Tall Calla Lilies

In the middle of a busy and rather hot June afternoon, I took a short break to visit a local garden where the place with the best shade was... under a large tree under which were the largest calla lilies I've ever seen!  I ended up painting them from the ground to feel even more dwarfed by them. Gouache and ink.

Sketchbook #115: Bouquet

This was an unusual bouquet as this was the first time my kid picked flowers for me all by himself - and he made some great choices :)

Sketchbook #94: Last Days of My Lilies

As my bouquet of lilies aged it became more and more beautiful, quiet and slowly took over whole kitchen table with it's petals and pollen and falling leaves. I drew it a few more times and said goodbye.

Sketchbook #94: Gouache

The paper in this sketchbook is not happy about me using masking tape to break it into two drawings. But it takes gouache well.

Sketchbook #91: Agapanthus (African Lily) and Cactus

I found two amazing plants to draw: african lilies (agapanthus) of two different colors and a huge cactus! The owner of the cactus was concerned that I am an inspector of sorts - standing there "with the ledger, looking at our plant". Bus I showed him a spread and a smile appeared - together with the joking: "my wife told me to plant this a year ago - not it's taller than me!"

Last Day of Lilies

May 2014: Last Day of Lilies
I drew these flowers when they were jus buds and then through their short but very fragrant life outside since it was impossible to live in the same house with them :) And this was a good bye. Till the next bunch!

Lillies

May 2014: Lillies
I love these flowers but have to keep them outside and even draw in short bursts - the envelope of fragrance is very powerful!

Day-to-Day Stuff

I am so behind with posting (perhaps it will look better if I say that I have more stuff drawn than posted :) that I decided to do a few posts with lots of day-today things dumped here - as a record.
