Illustration Friday: Adapt

Illustration Friday: Adapt, originally uploaded by apple-pine.
My current sketchbook paper has some tooth and not too opaque - hence you kind-of can see previous exercise on the adapt theme in the texture and colors of this drawing ;)

Illustration Friday: Cracked

Well, it's supposed to be fun and not a finished art piece - so here it is - what I drew during warming up today based on Illustration Friday theme ;)

Illustration Friday: Celebrate

There are many-many things to celebrate in February. And now - one more as a new little girl entered this world!

Illustration Friday: time / numbat

Illustration Friday: time / numbat
When I think about species that are extinct or almost extinct - like numbat, I think about time. In many different ways.

Illustration Friday: flawed

Illustration Friday: flawed, originally uploaded by apple-pine.

About a week ago or so we were in a store which gives balloons to kids when you finish with your shopping. We got a nice, big one!

A. was carrying it proudly to the car - we have a special ritual when we put balloon in the car first and make sure that it's strapped to it's place etc. And, when we were just a couple of steps away from the car, balloon got away, started moving up and then... POP!

A. was devastated. It was not the first balloon to die on his hands but certainly this was the most sudden end up to date. He cried WHY? so loudly that people came out of the store and very soon A. had another balloon in his hands. But he kept asking why and I told him that it was flawed from the very beginning - but this answer does not help - he keeps asking, though less frequently now. New balloon is gone too - but it's passing did not make so much noise and did not bring so many questions :)

Illustration Friday: rambunctious

I had a whole bunch of ideas, one was scarier (crazier?) than another ;)Illustration Friday: rambunctious - a
But I think they express my rambunctious feelings ;)

balloon for Illustration Friday

I tried a couple of different versions for composition and color, had a lot of fun with the gouache and ended up with this :)

I think this would look very different in Summer - but naked trees are on my mind right now.

Illustration Friday: Opinion

I think opinions might change when you see things form other perspectives :)

Illustration Friday: wise

Illustration Friday: wise, originally uploaded by apple-pine.

This is a portrait of a A.A. Liubischev - a man who lived a full life. Which I think is wise :)

I just finished a book about him and found only a few portraits online. I liked this one because of the hand and because of the way how his asymmetrical face is glowing :)

Illustration Friday: Sugary

I am not into sugary stuff. Not at all.
And this was a really good exercise for me as I have to overcome certain resistance within. And i did not really succeed in this. At the end I decided that I will think about some sweet things I ate over the last week that were NOT sugary - and draw them - which is what you see here :)

p.s. I just opened my fridge and counted 5 sorts of jam. May be I should think more about the sugary topic... or less? ;)

Illustration Friday Forray

Perhaps, my fascination with dwarf elephants will explain my drawing for the Island theme :)
if08_island

I thought about doing something sweet and sugary, when I brainstorm about something I keep drawing and after a while this face from the book I recently read came up. I think you can see that I am not too much into sugary things :) A more fitting drawing is in the process though :)

When you are all packed and ready to go - what do you think about? Did I remember to take **** and *** and ***?

Illustration Friday: Memory and Clutter

Clutter is one of the things I always think of coming from inside and able to get inside ;) And this is an endless war - just like with leaves in the fall :)
if08_clutter

And as for memory... I tried to remember things not visually and found out that sounds are very vivid but also - surprisingly to me personally - I remembered a lot as a touch - and could transform memory from a picture and colors to feelings on my skin - it's fun - you should try it!

Illustration Friday: routine

I kept IF challenge for about a year. Now I've taken a break for about a year. Is it time to bring back IF into my routine? :)

Illustration Friday: routine, originally uploaded by apple-pine.

I did quite a few sketches and this one I kept coming back to - so there are many things used: markers, pencil, watercolor, ink. A bit of a mess in terms of color palette but still - there is something in it that works.

Garden for Illustration Friday

This topic is worth exploring further but I wanted to share results of my plein air today :)
More at my Flickr :)

Illustration Friday: Leap

I was thinking about leap of faith and how we need it in our everyday lives and somehow got into this one ;)

Illustration Friday: choose

I think that making the simplest, right choice if a very hard thing sometimes. When I am stuck - I try to remember that I am capable of making a right decision - which slipper to put on which foot for example ;)

I created this as a part of watercolor pencil workshop.

Illustration Friday: Blanket

I started drawing my blanket for the continuation of my explorations of brown colors in January - now February - but somehow my pouch got into this drawing - and here you are - a blanket is only a backdrop :) Well, may be I will try again ;)
