100 Views of Silicon Valley: Baylands Park, Sunnyvale, California
I've finished my 100 views in June but with all the traveling stopped posting. Since then I found that many of the mini paintings I would like to re-paint or add/adjust - so this is a new stage of the project - and I will continue sharing it as it nears the conclusion of gathering all the images in one place.

100 Views of Silicon Valley: Sunnyvale
Sunnyvale is an amazing city filled with fruit trees and cozy houses. I love and use it's library (upper left) and always noticed a cell tower above police station from afar.
I watched the last cherry orchard in Sunnyvale become an apartments and shopping center (though there is still a little store with an old sign - all that is left of the old ways of he fruit valley - before the silicon days. Oh - and bottom left "El Paseo de los Suenos" - an abstract sculpture which brings in it's idea California settlers, geological structure and solstices.

Sketching Sunnyvale with Suhita
Suhita Shirodkar is an amazing artist with whom I had a pleasure to sketch in Sunnyvale this spring. It took me forever to get to scan and post these sketches - Suhita posted hers ages ago!

November Skies: My Obstacles
Two nights in a row I was painting in the park trying to find my way through these obstacles:
1. Sky changing very fast.
2. High humidity: hard to make any details/drop second layer or add anything but the very first impression. Had to do that in almost complete darkness and even finish one tree details later.
3. Well wishing adults and kids all of a sudden explaining what I should add and asking why something does not look exactly like this etc.
Drawing while in passenger seat
I took my car to the repair shop and decided that since I have a meeting soon I should use their shuttle service to be a little early (instead of walking). The distance was about 3 miles - if you just take simple road. (I ran to pick-up my car later that day). It was a looong ride. I sketched on every other traffic light ;)

While in the car my phone rang - meeting was canceled - hurray - I got to sketch nearby street :)
Post 500 - Sketching in the shade of Peacock tree
We called this tree Peacock tree because of the shape and brightness of the flowers. But I just did a quick search and found out that it's called mimosa tree or Albizia julibrissin :) I spent a wonderful half-hour drawing in it's shade on June 24th :)

I am back form my wonderful trip and have quite a few new spreads to share about New York but since theer was not time to scan any, here is a batch form last month.
These were done while waiting at the car service center. Good people - they had Lego and comfy chairs for their customers of all ages ;)
Strange, windy weather
Park was virtually deserted that day which meant almost no sketching for me - I had to be a a full time play mate ;)
This was done with the Indigo watercolor pencil and a bit of pen over to strengthen some lines.
Spring weather
A wonderful day - full of spring smells and colors! I worked like a beaver all day long and had only a few minutes while waiting next to the library to draw this :)
I am trying to get my sketching set-up smaller and more portable and trying every week something new,. This week it's a tiny case from some fancy pen (who knows where it is now :) i placed a few watercolor pencils and great waxy color pencils from Lyra (uuuuum - drawing with butter!) and used this mini set-up here. It's nice - I give it 9 points for quick access, small space taken in the bag and addition of color. It's better than regular pencil which I love but cannot stand smudges.
Sketching in the rain
Cold and rainy day. But when we saw a bit of blue in the sky, decision was quick - to the park! It was raining a bit but not too much - you can see it in the way my Begreen Pilot Precise V5 showed it's relationship with water here :) A. made great progress in soccer that day. And I made this little sketch :)
Cold, windy day after rain.
I tried to get some plein air action on this cold and windy day in February - but gave up at some point and had to finish in the car - hands were too stiff, paper tried to escape and eyes were watery from the wind.
On the image below you can see how I situated myself in the car to finish painting - brown sketchbook is the one I was working in at the moment - but for these sketches I pulled a sheet of nice, absorbant watercolor paper from Arches.

Heavy Rain
There was no way to sketch outside the car! I had a crack of the window open to make sure that I know how it feels outside (and to have some fresh air) and sketched this thinking about raindrops all over.

Beginning of Book 28: Sunnyvale Fire Truck
I finished my sketchbook 27 with the series of news digest drawings - CEOs of large corporations and Darwin dominated a few last pages.
New book was in front of me - very different, long since waiting for it's turn to be opened. Brown craft paper, rather rough. From the first 1/4 of page covered with strokes I learned that I will need to clean lead often as it absorbs paper lint. But a lot of fun to play with! I started the book with the drawing of my chance meeting with Sunnyvale Fire Truck!
