Plant Eviction
Odds and Ends from Sketchbook #147
This is a mixture of odds and ends from the recent sketchbook - little notes, page overlays, and such. I use semi-transparent sheets of tracing paper or vellum to protect pages and often get too carried away by the paper and add drawings on them too - you can learn more about why I do this and how in a series of posts Layers in my sketchbooks. And some of these were done with the CMYK pens experiments.
Paperwhite Daffodils
One of the mystery bulbs turned out to be paper white daffodils. As they opened up and filled the room with the fragrance I tried to draw the whiteness and gentleness of the flowers and strength and texture of the stems and leaves. I used diluted ink, stencils and ballpoint pen to make these.
Thank you for supporting my dream of stopping this war!
Many people reached out to me with words and actions of support during this difficult time. I read and appreciate them all, and if sometimes my answer is delayed, please know - I feel the strength of so many people behind me and my dream of stopping this war!
I am making this print available with the custom painting over it on my Etsy. All the sales proceeds will go to supporting people in Ukraine. It’s a Daffodil!
Some time ago I got a bunch of bulbs and planted them into pots or put in the water jars. I was not sure what was where and so far these bulbs were teaching me patience. I drew them periodically. But this week one of the plants started to grow very rapidly and we have the very first flower: it’s a daffodil!
Sketchbook #112: The story of old bulbs
These are sketches that depict my fretting as to what kind of flowers I might have (the choice was between daffodils, tulips, and hyacinthus). There was some drama too: one day my neighboring squirrel dug out some of the bulbs and one even got on the ground outside... but it did not stop the project. Plants are amazingly resilient!
